10 DIY Avocado Hair Masks for Natural Hair

Avocado is one of my favorite hair products. It is rich in nutrients and minerals that are essential for strong, shinny and smooth hair. The fruit is commercially and substantially used to make hair oil and skin products but it can be directly applied as a mask. In most cases, avocado hair mask recipes contain other products that enhance their richness, texture and usefulness.

For example, depending on individual hair needs, a mask can contain products that primarily enhance hair strength and oiliness. Another mask recipe can prevent breakage, dandruff and tangling. The list goes on and on to accommodate a wide range of hair needs. This article contains 10 detailed DIY avocado hair mask recipes to choose from.

Avocado and honey hair mask.

avocado-hair-mask

This is primarily an all hair types mask and my favorite of all avocado hair masks. I have dry thirsty hair that can be very difficult to manage at times. Whenever I apply it, everything from combing to rinsing and styling gets significantly easier. A ripe avocado, pure honey, and extra-virgin olive oil are the signature preparation ingredients. With these standard products, the mask works just fine for all hair types.

The fun part is where you get creative and add other ingredients to make variations better than most of the hyped products that cost a fortune. I personally prefer to add essential oils that are suitable for dry hair. Examples include lavender, ylang ylang, clary sage and rosemary essential oils. For the recipe shared here, I used ylang ylang by Gya Labs. The quality is uncompromised and the aroma is heavenly. I also believe that their lavender is much better than the brand that I used. If your hair is oily, you can add lavender or peppermint essential oil.

Another variation for this recipe calls for the incorporation of apple cider vinegar which is widely used in DIY natural hair recipes for its pH restoration, hair shine and anti-dandruff and itchiness elimination benefits.

Egg yolk is commonly used in natural hair care routines to treat dry and damaged hair. Besides preventing hair loss, it strengthens, conditions and promotes hair growth. These benefits are linked to its rich protein and biotin composition.

  7. Massage well and don shower cap for about 10 minutes
